Looking For Guidance On Healthy Eating Habits?

Do you find yourself preoccupied with or worried about your eating patterns? Are you restricting yourself, overeating, purging, or engaging in other concerning behaviors? Has a medical condition developed or worsened due to your diet? Could you benefit from learning tools for establishing a healthy, fulfilling diet and exercise routine?

It’s common to develop stressors around food—maybe you use food to cope with your emotions or as a discipline-and-reward system. You may have noticed that negative feelings are often associated with food, like guilt, shame, remorse, and/or avoidance. Your symptoms may have become so acute that you’re beginning to see signs of depression and anxiety, including hopelessness and a critical inner voice.

Additionally, you may have developed physical symptoms and/or medical issues due to diet or underlying health conditions. Whether you’ve experienced weight gain, weight loss, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, hair loss, heart issues, or received a diabetes diagnosis, you may be seeking guidance from a Registered Dietitian who can help you restore your health.

At Winding Roads Counseling, we offer nutritional counseling and treatment for eating disorders to a range of clients. Working with our team, you can learn lifelong skills for achieving a healthy lifestyle and getting your nutritional needs met.

Many Of Us Have To Learn Skills For Healthy Eating

In our culture, it can be difficult to maintain a healthy relationship with food. It’s a constant in our lives, and we need it to survive, but we receive a lot of different messages about what is and isn’t healthy. The media can perpetuate unhealthy body image, which is often at the root of disordered eating patterns. Not to mention, in our fast-paced society, it’s often challenging to find time to make healthy, nutritional meals, especially as the cost of quality ingredients skyrockets.

Disordered eating patterns can result from a range of stressors and behaviors, and you do not need an official diagnosis to benefit from nutritional counseling or treatment. If you are ready to change your relationship with food and receive support alongside an expert who is passionate about this work, schedule a consultation with one of our Registered Dietitians today.

Nutritional Counseling With A Registered Dietitian Is Available Through Our Practice

At Winding Roads Counseling, we are pleased to offer nutritional counseling and treatment for eating disorders to adults (18+) of all backgrounds. Treatment is available to clients who:

● Have been diagnosed with an eating disorder, including anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating/purging disorder
● Have been diagnosed with medical conditions that could be improved with diet
● Experience obsessive, negative thoughts about eating and exercise
● Want to learn tools for healthy eating

Working with our Registered Dietitians, you can overcome some of the mental, physical, and emotional barriers created by your relationship with food.

Our Approach and What To Expect

Our Registered Dietitians are trauma-informed, skills-based clinicians who will individualize meal plans and nutritional counseling to your unique needs. Though treatment is trauma- informed, this is not therapy; rather than excavating the past, we use tools like Motivational Interviewing and strengths-based counseling to focus on the changes you want to make right now.

Through this process, you can meaningfully address your relationship with food and develop skills to improve that relationship well into the future.

Individualizing a plan that centers around what optimal health looks like for you, you will create and track goals with your dietitian. Though the outcomes will be based on your specific goals, some of the insights you’re likely to take away from nutritional counseling are:

● An improved relationship with food and exercise
● A new understanding of your health and nutritional needs
● Skills you can implement into your daily life that will help you identify healthy habits and create healthy routines
● Tools for remaining present and fostering self-compassion
● Referrals for additional medical testing (if needed)

With support, you can feel better about what you are eating and how you engage with your body. Working with our trained, experienced, and empathetic Registered Dietitians, you will begin to see the results you’ve been looking for.

Common Concerns About Nutritional Counseling And Treatment For Eating Disorders

I am worried I won’t have time for nutritional counseling.

Our Registered Dietitians aim to make this process as productive and accessible as possible. We will do everything we can to accommodate your scheduling needs! It’s also worth noting that our Registered Dietitians currently provide their services entirely online. By reducing your commute and offering you the option of meeting from wherever it works best for you, virtual counseling is even more flexible than in-person treatment.

Treatment is too expensive.

Our practice accepts insurance, so depending on your insurance plan, you may qualify for partial or full coverage for treatment. We are happy to take care of billing your insurance, so if you have any questions about who we network with, contact us.

How often will we have to meet before I begin to see results?

Our goal is to help make this process move as quickly and productively as possible. Your first session will be a thorough intake during which we will go over your history and goals for treatment. From there, we will schedule weekly or biweekly sessions until you are feeling confident about your progress.
