Depression Treatment

Does Depression Hold You Back From Feeling Happiness In Your Life?

Lately, have you been weighed down by sadness, hopelessness, and despair? Have these feelings exhausted all of your energy and motivation, making it difficult to get out of bed and take care of your daily responsibilities? Do you find yourself overwhelmed with negative, intrusive thoughts that cause you to isolate yourself from friends and family?

Being caught up in this cycle of sorrow and seclusion can have you believing there’s no way out. Maybe you’ve been irritable or easy to overreact, and the people in your life have taken notice. They might say things like, “You’re acting different,” or “I miss the old you,” which often worsens the way that you already feel about yourself.

The truth is that dealing with prolonged symptoms of depression puts a real strain on your physical, mental, and relational well-being. You may be experiencing disturbances in your sleep, changes in your appetite, or disassociation from the things that once brought you joy. And when you find yourself experiencing these physical ailments or distressing ideations, it can be tough to feel any sense of calm or relief in your body and mind.

Depression Can Be Caused By A Variety Of Factors

Throughout our lives, we are expected to encounter a wide range of emotions—so it’s normal to feel sad, angry, distraught, or down on yourself from time to time. However, if these emotions linger for long enough, you may start to forget what it’s like to live without depressive symptoms or what happiness even feels like.

If you’re tired from the mental and physical toll that depression has had on you, treatment at Winding Roads Counseling will give you the tools and knowledge needed to help combat and reduce symptoms whenever they arise.

Depression Affects People In Every Demographic

There are a wide range of situations and experiences that can cause depression, which may include, but are not limited to:

● Traumatic Experiences
● Medical Conditions
● Co-occurring Mental Health Issues
● Genetics
● Giving Birth
● Burnout From Your Occupation
● Familial Background and History
● Prolonged Moments Of High Stress

No matter who you are or where you’re from, anyone can feel the effects of depression. And although you may feel alone in your battle—as if nobody understands what you’re going through—the amount of people who experience clinical depression is actually more common than you may think.

Falling into this cycle for prolonged periods can be detrimental to your overall well- being, sometimes resulting in negative ideations or even thoughts of suicide.

Despite the suffering, you probably try to avoid burdening others with your thoughts and feelings. Without that support or the answers needed to pull yourself up and out of this rut on your own, the wave of distressing emotions that you’ve grown accustomed to simply continues without end.

If you’re tired of feeling this way and struggle to find sustained relief from depression, then our therapists at Winding Roads Counseling are here to offer you support. In therapy, you will be given a safe place to challenge your distressing thoughts, feel validated in your decisions, and figure out the meaning behind your symptoms so that you can learn how to overcome depression for good.

"In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated one out of every six adults will experience symptoms of depression in their lives. Although this is the case, it is estimated that only about half of that number ever receive proper treatment. This means that there are people living their lives every day under the impression that they will always feel depressed."

Treatment At Winding Roads Counseling Can Help You Heal From Your Depression

At Winding Roads Counseling, therapy is meant to help you improve your overall mood and symptoms of depression—not introduce more anxiety into your life. Our therapists aim to work alongside you every step of the way to alleviate your depression. We want you to understand and accept your emotions, sensations, and symptoms so that you feel validated in feeling the way that you do. Depression treatment works best when you are paired with a therapist that best suits your needs. For that reason, we will start with a standard intake assessment to gauge your experience with depression and how it ultimately affects you day to day. From there, we will team you up with one of our experienced counselors and individualize your depression treatment to provide you with the best healing experience possible. There are a few different treatment options that we use to help you along your healing journey. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) teaches you techniques to help you connect your thoughts, feelings, and actions to one another in order to reframe any negative thought processes or distortions that you may be experiencing. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is another method that we use to help you broaden your window of tolerance by teaching you four core values:

● Mindfulness: the practice of being fully aware in the moment

● Distress Tolerance: learning how to accept the pain brought on by certain situations instead of ignoring or attempting to change those feelings

Interpersonal Effectiveness: knowing how to properly assert yourself in asking for the things in your life you want and respectfully declining the things you don’t

Emotion Regulation: being comfortable with feeling and expressing the wide range of emotions that you feel throughout your life

With these tools at your disposal, we are confident that you will be able to move forward with a more positive outlook on life. The support you receive at Winding Roads Counseling will help you see that you are worthy and deserving of feeling free from the grasp that depression has held on you.

Even Though You’re Considering Getting Treatment For Depression, You Still Have Some Concerns…

Why can’t I overcome depression on my own?

You are the expert on your own life and well-being. That being said, overcoming symptoms is extremely difficult to accomplish on your own without proper treatment and empathetic support because isolation and seclusion feed into depression in ways that you may not even realize. At Winding Roads Counseling, we want you to know that we will work alongside you throughout every step of your healing journey. Our counselors will collaborate with you to figure out the best way to handle your depression in hopes of guiding you toward a path of true happiness and relief.

How long will treatment take for me to heal from my depression?

Since depression looks different in every individual, therapy sessions will be tailored to best suit your needs. And while there isn’t a timetable for the healing process, our goal is to reduce your depression symptoms within the first few treatment sessions. However, relief and healing also take on different meanings depending on who you are. Some of our clients immediately feel better from their depression with the support of our counselors. Others may be in counseling for six-to-twelve months before ever reporting any resolve from their depression. The key is to gain the insight and tools that you need to push yourself toward happiness, no matter how long it may take.

I don’t know if I can afford depression therapy.

Here at Winding Roads Counseling, we will collaborate with you to determine a financial plan that best suits your situation. We offer a sliding scale and accept most commercial insurances. For out-of-network benefits, we will submit the necessary paperwork to your insurer for potential reimbursement. This way, you can solely focus on working with our counselors to get the best experience out of your treatment sessions and find sustained healing from depression.
